Scarlet Myzomela, Myzomela sanguinolenta, is a honeyeater of eastern Australia, breeding from eastern Queensland to southern Victoria. It was described by Latham in 1801. The bird is the smallest honeyeater in Australia, with a short tail and a fairly long down-curved bill. The sexes differ strongly: the male is bright red with black wings, while the female is brown throughout. It is also notably vocal, with several recorded calls, among them a tinkling, bell-like note.
