Piranga olivacea
The Scarlet Tanager is a striking bird with a bright red body and black wings. Males are easily recognizable with their vibrant plumage, while females have a more subdued olive-yellow coloration. These birds are known for their melodious songs and are often found high in the forest canopy. They primarily feed on insects and fruits, making them important for seed dispersal. Scarlet Tanagers breed in mature deciduous and mixed forests in eastern North America and migrate to South America for the winter. They are often observed foraging in the treetops, where they build cup-shaped nests. Despite their bright colors, Scarlet Tanagers can be elusive due to their preference for high, dense foliage.
