Sedge Wren

Cistothorus stellaris

The Sedge Wren (Cistothorus stellaris) is a small, secretive bird found in wet meadows, marshes, and grassy areas across North and Central America. This wren is known for its distinctive buzzy song and rapid, erratic flight pattern. It has a brownish upper body with streaks, a light-colored belly, and a short tail often held upright. Sedge Wrens forage for insects and spiders in dense vegetation, using their slender bills to probe for prey. They are often heard more than seen due to their skulking behavior and preference for dense cover. Sedge Wrens are vulnerable to habitat loss and degradation.
