Sikkim Wedge-billed Babbler

The Sikkim Wedge-billed Babbler (Pomatorhinus schisticeps) is a medium-sized babbler found in the eastern Himalayas. It has a distinctive wedge-shaped bill and a brownish-grey plumage with subtle streaks and mottling. This species is known for its melodious and varied calls, often heard in dense undergrowth and bamboo thickets. Sikkim Wedge-billed Babblers forage on the forest floor, feeding on insects, small invertebrates, and occasionally seeds. They are typically found in montane forests and rhododendron thickets, often at elevations between 1,500 and 3,500 meters. While not globally threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential threats to this species, and its conservation status is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
