Silver-rumped Spinetail

Rhaphidura leucopygialis (Blyth, 1849)

Silver-rumped Spinetail, Rhaphidura leucopygialis, is a swift of the Apodidae family that breeds in the Oriental Region, including the Malay Peninsula and the Greater Sundas. It occurs in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand, and is associated with subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest. Studies on this bird have examined facultative heterothermy, including torpor, as a way of lowering metabolic rate and saving energy in its tropical setting. It was described by Blyth in 1849.
