Snow Bunting

Plectrophenax hyperboreus

The Snow Bunting, scientifically known as Plectrophenax hyperboreus, is a small passerine bird found in the Arctic regions. During the breeding season, males display striking black and white plumage, while females have a more subdued brown and white appearance. These birds are known for their high-pitched calls and are often seen foraging for seeds and insects on the tundra. Snow Buntings are highly adapted to cold environments and undertake long migrations to their wintering grounds in more temperate regions. They are known for their resilience in harsh conditions and are a symbol of the Arctic wilderness.
