About this tour
Autumn reshapes Hungary’s birding as migrants arrive from northern Europe and wetlands build large concentrations of geese, cranes and ducks. This five-day circuit combines those lowland movements with open puszta and northern mountain birds.
The route begins around Kecskemet and Tiszaalpar, reaches Lake Tisza and mountain habitat, then works the saline lakes, fishponds and grasslands around Apaj, Boddi-szek, Kelemen-szek and Pusztaszer. Alongside cranes and scarce geese, the search includes eagles, falcons, Great Bustard, Wallcreeper, Alpine Accentor, Great Grey Shrike and Snow Bunting.

Day 1
Arrival and first Tiszaalpar migration watch
Transfer from the airport to the Kecskemet area and, if arrival time allows, begin around Tiszaalpar’s wetland habitat.
Day 2
Lake Tisza waterbirds and northern mountains
Check Lake Tisza for migrating and wintering geese and ducks, then continue to northern mountain sites for woodpeckers, Alpine Accentor and Wallcreeper.
Day 3
Northern Kiskunsag lakes and Apaj puszta
Work Kelemen-szek, Boddi-szek, Apaj fishponds and open grassland for bustards, raptors and concentrated migration activity.
Day 4
Pusztaszer fishponds and southern grasslands
Spend the day around Pusztaszer’s fishponds, sodic lakes and grasslands for cranes, geese, ducks and open-country birds.
Day 5
Airport return with optional final field time
Check out and travel to the airport, adding local birding only when the departure schedule safely permits it.
