Horned Grebe

Podiceps auritus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Horned Grebe, Podiceps auritus, breeds in North America and the Palearctic, from Iceland and Scandinavia to eastern Russia, and across southern, central Alaska, western and central Canada, and the northern tier of the western and central contiguous United States. In the non-breeding season it reaches the coasts of the North Sea, the northern Mediterranean and western Asian seas, as well as the Korean Peninsula and Japan. It also occurs from the Aleutian Islands to northern Baja California, and along the western North Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts to central Florida. It is a grebe in the family Podicipedidae.
