About this tour

This six-hour private tour links two Helsinki-area wetlands during the most active part of spring and early summer. Guests meet Samuel at the first site and bird on foot before transferring by tram and metro to the second location. The format provides more time and habitat coverage than the shorter Classic Tour while remaining practical for visitors using Helsinki’s public-transport network.

Wetlands around Helsinki combine open water, reedbeds, muddy edges and adjoining woods. Samuel chooses the day’s sequence according to current conditions, using paths, boardwalks and observation points where appropriate. A scope is available for studying distant waterbirds and migrants without approaching too closely. The walking pace and total distance can be adjusted to the group, although guests should be comfortable with a longer outing and the transfer between sites. Public-transport tickets are separate from the guiding service.

Horned Grebe is a central seasonal interest, with other possibilities including Common Rosefinch, Garganey, Citrine Wagtail, Broad-billed Sandpiper and White-tailed Eagle. Common Goldeneye, Eurasian Shoveler and other wetland birds may also be present. These are potential observations rather than promises, and the mix changes with migration timing, breeding activity and weather. The tour operates from May 1 to July 15; the private date, first meeting point and any mobility considerations are confirmed after inquiry.

Itinerary

Day 1
Two-site wetland birding session

Meet Samuel at the first agreed Helsinki-area wetland and begin with walking and scope-based birding through the most useful habitat for that day. Continue by tram and metro to a second site, where the focus can shift between breeding waterbirds, reedbeds, woodland edges and migrants. The six-hour sequence stays adaptable to weather, current birds and the group’s pace; public-transport tickets are not included.
