Citrine Wagtail

Motacilla citreola

The Citrine Wagtail is a small, slender bird with a distinctive lemon-yellow plumage on its underparts and a contrasting greyish-green back. During the breeding season, the male displays a black throat and a black-and-white facial pattern. This migratory bird is known for its graceful, bobbing walk and its habit of wagging its tail up and down. It breeds in open wet meadows and marshes in northern Europe and Asia, and winters in sub-Saharan Africa. The Citrine Wagtail feeds on insects and small invertebrates, often foraging near water. Its populations are declining due to habitat loss and degradation.
