Vanellus gregarius
The Sociable Lapwing (Vanellus gregarius) is a striking bird known for its black and white plumage, distinctive crest, and long slender legs. This species is known for its highly social behavior, often forming large flocks during migration. Sociable Lapwings breed in open grasslands and steppes of central Asia, and migrate to wintering grounds in the Middle East and northern Africa. Unfortunately, this species has experienced a rapid decline in population due to habitat loss, hunting, and other human-induced threats. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining populations and their crucial breeding and wintering habitats.
