Song Sparrow, Melospiza melodia, is a widespread breeding bird across North America, reaching central Mexico. It belongs to the New World sparrows and is a familiar species in brushland and marshes, including salt marshes, as well as in suburbs, farmland and beside roads. It is also found on the ground, in shrubs and in very shallow water when feeding. The species is notable for its great variation across many forms, and for a song that gives it its name. It was described by Wilson in 1810.
