Sooty-headed bulbul

Hypsipetes leucocephalus

The sooty-headed bulbul (Hypsipetes leucocephalus) is a medium-sized songbird found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia. It is known for its distinctive sooty-black head and upperparts, contrasted by a white belly and undertail. This species is known for its melodious and varied song, often heard echoing through the dense foliage. Sooty-headed bulbuls are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and berries, but they also consume insects and small invertebrates. They are typically found in the canopy of forests, where they build their cup-shaped nests. Despite being relatively common in its range, habitat loss and fragmentation pose threats to its populations.
