Geothlypis velata (Vieillot, 1809)

Southern Yellowthroat, Geothlypis velata, is a passerine warbler of the family Parulidae that breeds in South America from south-eastern Peru and northern Bolivia through southern Amazonian Brazil to Argentina and Uruguay. It was first described in 1809. Its range also includes Paraguay. The species was long treated as part of the masked yellowthroat, but is now recognised as distinct by the IOC. It occupies a broad spread of habitats, from drier woodland and caatinga to marshes, flooded savanna, grasslands and forest edges, and it also occurs in altered places such as cut-over woodland and suburban areas.
