Hymenops perspicillatus (Gmelin, JF, 1789)
Spectacled Tyrant, Hymenops perspicillatus, breeds in the Southern Cone of South America and belongs to the Tyrannidae family. It is a bird of open country, including marshes, grassland and pasture, often close to water. The species is the sole member of Hymenops. Adults show a striking eye-ring that gives the bird its common name, with males and females differing in plumage. It was first described in 1789 by Gmelin. The breeding range includes Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia and southern Brazil.
