This private route explores the coastal wetlands of Mostardas, Tavares and Lagoa do Peixe National Park. Roberto Botelho describes the park as an important feeding and resting area for migratory birds arriving from North America and other regions before continuing their seasonal journeys.
Roughly 80% of the park lies within Tavares, while the headquarters are in Mostardas, making Mostardas a practical starting point. The area is about 280 km from Porto Alegre. Roberto reports more than 300 bird species in the wider park landscape; Red Knot is one of the long-range migrants he specifically identifies.
