Athene brama (Temminck, 1821)

Spotted Owlet Athene brama is an owl of the Oriental Region and the Palearctic from southern Iran to south-east Asia. It is a resident of open country, including farmland and places close to people, and it has also taken to towns and cities. It nests in tree holes and in cavities in buildings, and it may roost in small groups in hollows of trees, rocks or man-made structures. The species is a small, stocky owl with grey-brown upperparts marked by white spots, white underparts with brown streaking, a pale facial disc, yellow eyes, a white neckband and a supercilium.
