Streaky-headed Seedeater, Crithagra gularis, breeds in southern and south-central Africa and belongs to the finch family. It is a passerine of open woodland and scrub, and also uses savanna, orchards and gardens. Its most useful field clue is its voice, which often gives away its presence. The adult has brown upperparts with light streaking, a plain brown rump, a finely streaked crown, a dark face, and a white eyebrow and chin. The underparts are warm buff. The sexes look alike, though some females show slight streaking on the breast. The species was described by Smith in 1836.
