Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Cacatua galerita, breeds in New Guinea and its satellites, northern and eastern Australia, and Tasmania. It is a white cockatoo with a yellow crest, black bill, grey legs and a whitish eye-ring. The underwing and tail show yellow tinges. The Australian birds are larger than those from New Guinea and nearby islands. It lives in wooded country, including tropical and subtropical rainforest, and is also found in many urban areas. The species is known for being highly intelligent and for its loud calls.
