Dendrocopos syriacus
The Syrian Woodpecker, scientifically known as Dendrocopos syriacus, is a medium-sized woodpecker found in parts of Europe and Asia. It has distinctive black and white plumage with a red crown on the male. This species is known for its drumming and tapping sounds as it forages for insects and larvae in trees. The Syrian Woodpecker prefers deciduous and mixed woodlands, often found in parks, gardens, and orchards. It is also known to inhabit urban areas with suitable trees. Despite facing some habitat loss, the Syrian Woodpecker is not currently considered to be at risk and is categorized as Least Concern by the IUCN.
