Tanager Finch

Oreothraupis arremonops (Sclater, PL, 1855)

Tanager Finch, Oreothraupis arremonops, is a passerine of western Colombia and north-west Ecuador, where it lives in moist montane forest. It belongs to the New World sparrows and is the only species in Oreothraupis. Despite its name, it is neither a tanager nor a finch. It is a small, bulky bird with a short black bill, a black head marked by a pale stripe, a white belly, rust to light orange upperparts, dark brown legs and a rust-coloured tail. The sexes look alike.
