Tiger Shrike

The Tiger Shrike (Lanius tigrinus) is a medium-sized bird found in East Asia. It is known for its striking appearance, with a black mask across its eyes and a white throat. The upperparts are brownish with black and white barring, while the underparts are white with rufous flanks. This species is known for its predatory behavior, often impaling its prey on thorns or barbed wire. Tiger Shrikes inhabit open woodlands, scrublands, and grasslands, where they hunt for insects, small birds, and rodents. They are known for their distinctive calls and are often observed perched prominently on exposed branches. The conservation status of the Tiger Shrike is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
