Emarginata tractrac (Wilkes, 1817)

Tractrac Chat, Emarginata tractrac, is a passerine of the Muscicapidae family that breeds in south-west Africa, including southernmost Angola, western Namibia and western South Africa. It lives in Karoo and desert scrub, as well as hummock dunes and gravel plains. The bird is a resident breeder in these areas. It has a white tail with a dark inverted T at the tip, and the Namib form is much paler, while the south-eastern form shows brown upperparts with blackish flight feathers and tail markings. The sexes are alike, and the juvenile is more mottled than the adult.
