Trinidad Piping Guan

Pipile pipile (Jacquin, 1784)

Trinidad Piping Guan, Pipile pipile, is a bird of Trinidad in South America and belongs to the Cracidae family. Locally called the pawi, it is confined to the island and is placed in the order Galliformes. It is a large species with a turkey-like look, and its closest living relative is the blue-throated piping guan. It spends much of its time in trees and feeds mainly on fruit, with flowers and leaves also forming part of its diet. Once common, it has since declined sharply and disappeared from much of its former range.
