Upland Goose

Chloephaga picta

The Upland Goose (Chloephaga picta) is a species of waterfowl found in the southern part of South America. It is known for its striking plumage, with the male having a white head and neck, black breast and back, and a chestnut body, while the female is more cryptically colored. These geese are often found in open grasslands, wetlands, and near water bodies, where they feed on grasses, sedges, and small invertebrates. They are known for their strong, direct flight and their distinctive honking calls. The Upland Goose is a common sight in its range and is not currently considered to be at risk.
