Velvet-fronted Nuthatch

Sitta frontalis

The Velvet-fronted Nuthatch is a small, colorful bird found in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is known for its striking blue and orange plumage, with a distinctive black stripe across its eyes. This nuthatch is often found in wooded habitats, where it forages for insects and spiders by moving headfirst down tree trunks. It also builds its nest in tree holes using mud, dung, and fibers. The species is known for its loud, repetitive calls and agile acrobatics while foraging. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and deforestation pose potential threats to its population.
