Wedge-tailed Eagle, Aquila audax, breeds in Australasia, including southern New Guinea, Australia and Tasmania. It is a bird of prey and the largest of its kind on the Australian continent. Adults show long, broad wings, feathered legs and a tail shaped like a wedge, along with an extended upper bill, a strong beak and powerful feet. It is a large brown to black eagle. Its recorded wingspan reaches 2.84 m and its length can reach 1.06 m. It lives across many Australian habitats, from dry country to forests and mountains, and often uses places with rocky ground, open areas and native woodland.
