White-breasted Nuthatch

Sitta carolinensis

The White-breasted Nuthatch is a small songbird found in North America. It is known for its distinctive habit of creeping headfirst down tree trunks in search of insects and seeds. With a striking black cap, white face, and blue-gray back, this nuthatch is easily recognizable. It has a loud, nasal call that echoes through the woodlands where it resides. These birds are often seen in mature deciduous or mixed forests, where they forage for food in the bark of trees. They also readily visit bird feeders, adding a touch of charm to backyard birdwatching.
