White-necked Jacobin

Florisuga mellivora

The White-necked Jacobin is a striking medium-sized hummingbird found in the tropical forests of Central and South America. It has iridescent green upperparts, a white belly, and a distinctive white band across the back of its neck. Males have a brilliant blue crown, while females have a green crown. These agile birds feed on nectar from a variety of flowers and are known for their acrobatic flight patterns. They also consume small insects and spiders for protein. White-necked Jacobins play a vital role in pollination and are often seen visiting flowering plants in the understory and canopy of the forest.
