Short Manu Road Birding - 2 Days
A compressed two-day journey down Manu Road from the high Andes to Pillcopata, with cloud-forest stops on day one and bamboo plus Inkamazonia’s hummingbird garden on day two. It suits birders who cannot take the longer classic route.
About this tour
This short Manu Road option concentrates a major elevation change into two active days. The outward journey descends from the Acjanaco highlands through cloud forest to the tropical surroundings of Pillcopata; the return morning adds Guadua bamboo and Inkamazonia.
Mountain tanagers, toucans, quetzals, parrots and Cock-of-the-rock are among the cloud-forest possibilities. The garden session emphasizes White-necked Jacobin, Gould’s Jewelfront, Rufous-crested Coquette and other lowland hummingbirds.
A 4:00 am start, long road hours and repeated birding stops make this an active itinerary. The compact schedule offers less time at each elevation than the four-day route, and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Itinerary
Day 1
Cusco to Pillcopata
Depart at 4:00 am for Manu Road and stop in Paucartambo so guests can buy water, fruit or other supplies. Reach the Acjanaco checkpoint at about 7:00 am and enter Manu National Park. Bird through the day while descending from roughly 3,800 metres across highland and cloud-forest habitats to around 500 metres at Pillcopata, where the route reaches tropical forest and the overnight stop.
Day 2
Bamboo Patches, Inkamazonia and Return to Cusco
Begin at 6:00 am in Guadua bamboo, looking for species adapted to this specialized habitat. Continue later in the morning to Inkamazonia Hummingbird Garden and watch the feeders and flowers while having the included local breakfast. Start the return to Cusco at the appropriate time, pause briefly for lunch, and expect to arrive at about 6:00 pm.
