White-tailed Trogon

Trogon comptus

The White-tailed Trogon (Trogon comptus) is a medium-sized bird found in the forests of Central and South America. It has a distinctive white tail with black barring and a greenish-blue back and wings. The male has a red belly and a black face with a yellow eye ring, while the female has a gray belly and a black face with a white eye ring. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of soft, low-pitched hoots. White-tailed Trogons feed on insects and small fruits, and they often perch quietly in the forest understory. They are important seed dispersers for many plant species.
