Chlorestes candida
The White-vented Violetear is a medium-sized hummingbird found in the highlands of Central and South America. It is characterized by its vibrant green plumage, iridescent blue throat, and white vent feathers. These birds are often found in montane forests, cloud forests, and gardens with flowering shrubs. They feed on nectar from a variety of flowers and may also catch small insects. The White-vented Violetear plays an important role in pollination and is known for its distinctive buzzing sound during flight. Although not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and climate change pose potential risks to its populations.
