Spizella wortheni

Worthen's Sparrow is a small, secretive bird species found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is characterized by its streaked brown and buffy plumage, with a distinctive pale crown stripe and a pinkish bill. This sparrow prefers open grasslands, shrubby areas, and dry scrub habitats, often foraging on the ground for seeds and insects. The species is known for its subtle and melodious song, often heard during the breeding season. Worthen's Sparrow faces threats from habitat loss and degradation, and its population is declining, leading to its classification as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
