Yellow-billed Stork

Mycteria ibis (Linnaeus, 1766)

Yellow-billed Stork, Mycteria ibis, is a stork of Africa, breeding widely south of the Sahara. It is also found in Madagascar. In eastern Africa it is especially widespread, and it uses wetlands, shallow lakes and mudflats rather than heavily wooded country or deep water. Its most distinctive feature is the deep yellow bill, slightly curved at the tip, together with the red skin on the face and forehead. The species is part of the stork family Ciconiidae and was described by Linnaeus in 1766.
