About this tour

Explore the greener south of Senegal and the river landscapes of The Gambia on a private 15-day journey led by Abdoulie Jallow. After coastal birding around Popenguine, the route reaches Casamance for mangroves around Pointe Saint-Georges, coastal forest and lagoons near Diembéring and Cap Skirring, and forest, rice-field and savannah habitats around Ziguinchor, Basse-Casamance, Kafountine and Abéné.

The Gambian section follows productive wetland and savannah sites inland. Tendaba provides access to the Bao Bolong creek system, while Kiang West, Kampanti and Kalaji add raptor country, rice fields and River Gambia habitat. Janjanbureh, Kuntaur, Wassu and Jahally bring bee-eater colonies, river wildlife, flooded fields and breeding waterbirds.

The journey concludes in Senegal around Toubacouta and Kasumar Island. Dry woodland, communal raptor roosts and a low-tide boat excursion through Saloum Delta creeks offer a final contrast with the tropical Casamance habitats visited earlier.

Route timing can change with border logistics, tides, rainfall and current bird activity. All named species are possibilities rather than guaranteed sightings.
