Yellow Bishop

Euplectes capensis (Linnaeus, 1766)

Yellow Bishop, Euplectes capensis, is a resident breeding bird of central, eastern and southern Africa, found in less arid places with vegetation, from sea level up to the Ethiopian Highlands. It belongs to the weaver family and is a stocky species with a strong association with fynbos, moist grassland and bracken-filled valleys. The breeding male is black with bright yellow on the lower back, rump and shoulders, plus brown-edged wing feathers. It has a short crest, a thick conical bill and a relatively short tail.
