Yellow-breasted Bunting

Emberiza aureola

The Yellow-breasted Bunting is a small passerine bird known for its striking yellow and black plumage. Males display bright yellow underparts with black streaks, while females have more subdued coloring. These birds breed in open grassy areas and wet meadows in eastern Siberia and northern China, and migrate to Southeast Asia for the winter. Unfortunately, the population of Yellow-breasted Buntings has declined dramatically in recent years due to extensive trapping for food in China. As a result, the species is now listed as critically endangered by the IUCN.
