Icterus mesomelas (Wagler, 1829)

Yellow-tailed Oriole, Icterus mesomelas, is a passerine of the Icteridae family that breeds across Middle America and into South America, from eastern Mexico to north-west Peru. It is set apart by the yellow in its tail, which is unusually obvious for an oriole. The bird lives in thick cover in swampy lowlands, especially where vines, Heliconias and other dense plants grow. In Peru it also occurs in a river-valley corridor. Its range includes several subspecies, each with slight differences in the tertials and plumage tone.
