Giant Ibis Birding Tour: 2 Days, 1 Night
A two-day Northern Plains trip to Tmat Paeuy for Giant and White-shouldered ibises, with one night at community-linked Kriel Lodge.
About this tour
This two-day route travels from Siem Reap to Tmat Paeuy in Preah Vihear Province, one of Cambodia's principal Northern Plains birding areas. Seasonal wetlands and dry deciduous forest provide the setting for searches led by experienced bird guides.
The main objectives are White-shouldered Ibis and the Giant Ibis, a Critically Endangered species recognized as Cambodia's national bird. The guides use current activity, feeding areas and wetland conditions to shape the search, while the broader landscape can add other dry-forest birds. A short itinerary naturally offers less flexibility than the three-day version, and no wild-bird sighting is guaranteed.
The overnight stay is in a standard room at Kriel Lodge, based on double occupancy for two guests. Using this community-linked base and visiting the surrounding conservation landscape helps direct part of the trip cost toward local livelihoods and protection of threatened species and habitat.
