About this tour
The three-day Northern Plains programme links Siem Reap with Tmat Paeuy in Preah Vihear Province. Two nights at Kriel Lodge provide a base for exploring seasonal wetlands, dry deciduous forest and other habitats within this important conservation landscape.
Giant Ibis and White-shouldered Ibis are the principal targets, with additional possibilities among vultures, woodpeckers, rollers, barbets, raptors and other dry-forest birds. December to April is identified as the best period. Past peak-season tours have achieved success above 95 percent for the two ibis species, but that operating record is not a guarantee for any individual trip.
The extra day provides more flexibility to visit observation sites and respond to current bird activity than the shorter programme. Accommodation, guiding and conservation contributions connect the birding experience with community-based work intended to protect the Northern Plains and support local livelihoods.
