About this tour
This private two-day programme explores the northern part of Chiloé Island through a combination of coastal birding, boat travel and wetland observation. The first day begins at Caulín Bay bird sanctuary before a navigation to the Puñihuil penguin colony, where Humboldt and Magellanic penguins breed during spring and summer.
The second morning follows the quiet Chepu River toward a bird-rich lagoon. Riverbanks, native forest, small beaches and the sunken forest provide varied places to watch and photograph waterbirds and other wildlife. The return includes a home-hosted lunch with a local family before travelling back toward Puerto Varas.
The package includes one night of accommodation, private ground transport, ferry and boat travel, protected-area fees, meals, a spotting scope, checklist and extra binoculars requested in advance. Wildlife encounters depend on season and conditions.
