Private 18-Day Rajasthan and Gujarat Desert Birding Expedition
An 18-day private expedition from Delhi through Rajasthan and Gujarat for bustards, desert specialists, coastal waders and western India's arid wildlife.
About this tour
Travel from Delhi into the grasslands, desert and salt-country habitats of western India on a private 18-day journey organized by Beautiful Earth. Tal Chhapar and Bikaner introduce Blackbuck, wintering harriers, eagles and vultures before the route reaches Desert National Park, where the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard survives in its most important remaining Indian habitat.
The programme then crosses the Aravalli hills and the Greater Rann of Kutch. Searches in thorn scrub, Banni grasslands and seasonal wetlands give special attention to Grey Hypocolius and sandgrouse, while White-naped Tit, cranes and Marshall's Iora broaden the regional target list. Jamnagar adds tide-sensitive coastal birding for Crab-plover and a wide range of waders.
The final sector explores the Little Rann by 4x4 for Indian Wild Ass, MacQueen's Bustard, Short-eared Owl and winter waterbirds. This is a substantial overland itinerary with early field starts and some long drives. Exact sites may change with access, tides, weather and recent sightings.
