About this tour
This six-day extension travels west from Leh to Dras for a focused search for Himalayan Brown Bear, locally known as Dren-mo. Recent sightings around the town have made this remote part of Ladakh a practical place to look for the species, although every encounter remains uncertain.
Dras lies above 3,000 metres in Kargil district and is known for an exceptionally cold climate. Local guides and trackers lead daily searches in a region that receives fewer wildlife visitors than many other parts of Ladakh.
Other mammal possibilities include Tibetan Wolf, Red Fox, Bharal and Urial. The high-country bird community may feature Golden Eagle, Bearded Vulture, Chukar, Ibisbill, dippers, choughs, Wallcreeper, Himalayan Rubythroat, accentors and Brandt’s Mountain-Finch. Migration can add unexpected species.
The program can follow a Ladakh Snow Leopard expedition or operate independently. Anyone joining directly must reach Leh at least two days before Day 1 to acclimatize, with additional flights, transfers and accommodation arranged as needed.

Itinerary
Day 1
Leh to Kargil
The group leaves Leh and drives about 220 kilometres west to Kargil, a journey estimated at six hours before optional wildlife stops. Independent participants who are not continuing from the Snow Leopard expedition must allow a minimum of two prior nights in Leh for altitude adjustment. Flights, transfers and extra accommodation can be arranged.
Day 2
Dras
Days 2–4 are based at Dras, reached by a drive of about 65 kilometres or two hours. Local guides and trackers lead daily Brown Bear searches. Tibetan Wolf, Red Fox, Bharal and Urial are additional mammal possibilities. Bearded Vulture, Golden Eagle and Ibisbill may occur, while seasonal passage from Central and northern Asia can bring unexpected migrants through the valley.
Day 5
Dras to Leh
A final morning around Dras provides another opportunity for Brown Bear before the afternoon return to Leh.
Day 6
Leh to Delhi
Leaving Ladakh, travelers take the morning air service south to Delhi. Ground assistance then connects them with an international departure late that evening or early the next morning. When the homebound flight is not until the next day, an additional hotel night can be arranged.
