Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park
A private walking birding day at Ol Donyo Sabuk, following the Kilimambogo mountain trail through woodland and montane forest toward the summit.
About this tour
Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, also known locally as Kilimambogo, lies about 85 kilometers northeast of Nairobi. The compact park covers roughly 20 square kilometers around a solitary mountain whose upper slopes carry dense montane forest.
Birding is on foot from the main gate, following a marked trail that runs about nine kilometers to the summit. Lower woodland and thicket can produce Purple-crested Turaco, while the changing habitat supports forest specialists, highland birds and raptors. The gradient is described as accessible to a broad range of visitors, but pace and turnaround point should suit the group.
Viewpoints open across pineapple plantations, isolated rocky hills and Fourteen Falls. Birding is available throughout the year, with the route adjusted to weather, trail conditions and current activity. Completing the full summit walk and seeing any target species cannot be guaranteed.
