Superb Starling

Lamprotornis superbus Rüppell, 1845

Superb Starling, Lamprotornis superbus, is a starling of eastern Africa, breeding from Ethiopia and Somalia to Tanzania. It belongs to the family Sturnidae and was described by Rüppell in 1845. It is a glossy, short-tailed bird with a long narrow bill, sturdy build and strong feet. Adults are set apart by pale creamy-white eyes and a white breast band, which is not present in juveniles. The species was once placed in Spreo, but is now included in Lamprotornis.
