About this tour
Stay among the forest of southern Campeche and arrange private birding through Rio Bec Dreams, a small English-speaking hotel near Xpujil. The property occupies 50 hectares within the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, where maintained trails, mature vegetation and the lodge grounds offer birding close to the guest accommodation. More than 200 resident and migratory species have been recorded on or passing through the property.
Rio Bec Dreams no longer operates tours directly. Instead, Diane and the lodge team connect overnight guests with a certified birding guide whose qualification covers guiding across Mexico. The guide and guest agree the most useful route for the season, weather and current bird activity. The lodge gallery documents species and groups including Keel-billed Toucan, Ocellated Turkey, Bat Falcon, chachalacas, motmots, owls, Yucatan Jay and occasional herons, but every outing observes wild birds and no particular sighting can be promised.
Birding is possible throughout the year. January through March can add migrants to the species associated with the surrounding forest. Guests may also spend independent time watching from the private deck of a cabaña or jungalow, or walking the property’s forest trails before or after the guided outing.
Field meals can be ordered from the hotel restaurant, including portable morning and midday options. Each outing is exclusively for the guests making the reservation; guests from other hotels do not join the group. Guiding duration, route, availability, group size and price are agreed for each request. Most guests arrive in a rental vehicle and the guide travels with them. There is no regular pickup service, but special transport can be arranged when needed. This changes the guiding quotation because a suitable vehicle normally has to be hired. Accommodation is quoted for the requested dates, and meals are priced individually from the restaurant menu. Private forest birding from Rio Bec Dreams
Discuss birding priorities and arrangements in advance, or on arrival at Rio Bec Dreams in the evening. The certified guide and your private party agree the outing time, walking level and suitable forest trails or wider sites according to the season and recent activity. Most guests travel in their own rental vehicle with the guide; any specially arranged vehicle or pickup is quoted separately before the outing.
