Endemic Birds of Northern Peru - 4 Days
Four days across northern Peru’s Tumbesian dry forest, protected reserves and coastal mangroves. The route joins Bosque de Pomac, Chaparri, Tumbes and Cerros de Amotape in search of regional endemics such as Peruvian Plantcutter and White-winged Guan.
About this tour
This four-day journey follows the Tumbesian endemic region through Lambayeque and Tumbes. It combines dry forest, a private conservation area, mangrove channels and the meeting point of tropical and dry-forest ecosystems in Cerros de Amotape.
Birding is paired with elements of northern Peru’s culture. The first day includes Bosque de Pomac and the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, while later stages use a night bus to reach Tumbes and a small boat to explore the mangroves.
Peruvian Plantcutter, White-winged Guan and Roseate Spoonbill are highlighted targets. The program involves early starts, warm conditions, transfers and a full final day in Amotape; all wildlife observations depend on conditions in the field.

Itinerary
Day 1
Bosque de Pomac and the Peruvian Plantcutter
On arrival at Chiclayo airport, transfer directly to Bosque de Pomac to look for Peruvian Plantcutter and other northern endemics. After lunch at the guest’s expense, visit the Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum and learn about the Mochica heritage represented in its collection. The rest of the afternoon is free.
Day 2
Chaparri Private Conservation Area
Spend the day at Chaparri Private Conservation Area, working across different elevations of the dry forest with particular attention to White-winged Guan and other regional endemics. In the evening, board the night bus to Tumbes; the journey is expected to take about seven to eight hours.
Day 3
Tumbes Mangroves
After reaching Tumbes, leave luggage at the selected hotel and continue after breakfast to the Tumbes mangroves. Observe from small boats along the channels and islands. Lunch based on local fish and seafood is not included. Later, bird the hotel’s artificial lagoons for Roseate Spoonbill, storks, ducks and additional northern species.
Day 4
Cerros de Amotape National Park
Devote the final day to Cerros de Amotape National Park, where tropical and dry forest meet. This is described as a long field day with a broad range of northern Peruvian birds. At the end of the excursion, transfer either to Tumbes airport or to the selected hotel.
