Kigali Day-01 Arrival in Kigali Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be met by your guide who will transfer you to your hotel for an overnight stay. If you arrive early enough, you may visit the nearby Nyarutarama Lake to see some bird species like the African Jacana, Little Egret, and Grey-crowned Crane.
Nyungwe Forest National Park Birding in Nyungwe Forest National Park After breakfast, you’ll drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is home to over 300 bird species. Here, you’ll spend the day birding on the various trails, where you’ll spot several special bird species such as the Red-collared Babbler, Grauer’s Swamp Warbler, and Kungwe Apalis. You’ll also have the chance to spot primates such as the Colobus Monkey and Chimpanzee. You’ll spend the night at a lodge within the park.
Nyungwe Forest → Kigali (via Lake Kivu) Canopy Walk and Departure After breakfast, you’ll go for the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walk, which is a 160-meter long suspension bridge that offers stunning views of the forest canopy and a chance to spot several bird species such as the White-tailed Blue Flycatcher, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, and the Rwenzori Turaco. After the canopy walk, you’ll drive back to Kigali for your departure flight. Along the way, you may have a stopover at Lake Kivu to spot bird species such as the Pied Kingfisher, African Fish Eagle, and the Malachite Kingfisher. Note: Depending on your flight schedule, you may need to spend an additional night in Kigali before departing. You may also opt to visit the Akagera National Park for a day or two, which is home to several bird species such as the Shoebill Stork, Papyrus Gonolek, and Red-faced Barbet.
