Private Bird Photography Tours from Hides and Blinds in Southern Spain
An eight-day private photography route using specialist Sierra Morena hides before an open wetland day in Doñana or Ria Formosa, depending on the airport.
About this tour
This eight-day private programme centers on commercial photography hides in the Sierra Morena, followed by a contrasting day in a major wetland reserve. The mountain stage uses purpose-built setups for three large raptors—Golden, Bonelli’s and Spanish Imperial Eagles—alongside Eurasian Hoopoe, Common Kingfisher and Little Owl. European Bee-eater is another seasonal subject. A drinking pool creates additional passerine opportunities, while some sessions may also produce Red Deer.
The official route includes a night hide for Common Genet and notes that one specialist hide lies within an Iberian Lynx territory. These mammals remain particularly uncertain photographic possibilities and should not be expected on demand. Days two through five rotate among available morning and afternoon sessions, with time retained for a repeat where an initial visit is unproductive.
The final field day depends on the chosen gateway: Sevilla departures use Doñana or its buffer zone, while Faro departures use Ria Formosa. Both options shift attention toward waterbirds and open-space photography. The programme can start and finish in either Faro or Sevilla; exact hide allocation, seasonal subjects and wildlife behavior determine the results.

Guides
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival and Sierra Morena night hide
Transfer from the agreed Faro or Sevilla meeting point to the Sierra Morena base, with possible photography during the journey. After dinner, the published programme includes an approximately three-hour commercial night-hide session for Common Genet, which remains a difficult and unguaranteed subject.
Day 2
Sierra Morena hide sessions
Begin the scheduled rotation of morning and afternoon hides. Available setups may focus on large eagles, Little Owl, Eurasian Hoopoe, Common Kingfisher, seasonal European Bee-eater, Red Deer or passerines at a drinking pool.
Day 3
Specialist hides and drinking pool
Continue with hides selected for season and current activity. The guide may combine a specialist raptor or woodland-bird session with the constructed drinking pool; individual subjects and distances cannot be promised.
Day 4
Sierra Morena photography rotation
Use another combination of the Sierra Morena hide network. The programme retains flexibility for eagles, owls, kingfishers, hoopoes, passerines or seasonal subjects according to availability.
Day 5
Final full hide day
Complete the main hide sequence, with time available to repeat one or two setups when earlier sessions were less productive. Any Iberian Lynx or Common Genet opportunity remains exceptional rather than assured.
Day 6
Morning hide and transfer
Spend a final morning photographing in the Sierra Morena, then transfer toward El Rocío, Sanlúcar or Faro according to the selected airport and wetland plan.
Day 7
Doñana or Ria Formosa
Leave the hides for opportunistic photography in a major wetland reserve. Sevilla-based itineraries use Doñana or its buffer zone; Faro-based itineraries use Ria Formosa, with water levels, season and airport routing determining the exact location.
Day 8
Departure
Finish after breakfast and transfer to the chosen departure airport in Faro or Sevilla.
