24 Days Uganda Bird Photography: Karamoja to Bwindi
1/1

About this tour

This twenty-four-day itinerary is arranged around bird photography, with repeated morning and evening sessions and rest periods on dedicated field days. The route starts in Entebbe, continues to Mabamba for Shoebill photography and spends time in Mabira before heading into Karamoja.

Pian Upe, Matheniko and Kidepo provide dry-country birds and open backgrounds. The journey then crosses to Murchison Falls, where a private Nile boat trip complements the game drives. Masindi and Budongo change the photographic setting to grassland edges and forest, followed by Kibale, Bigodi and Semuliki for more shaded forest and wetland work.

Queen Elizabeth’s savanna and Kazinga Channel lead into the Bwindi section. Buhoma and Ruhija each receive a dedicated day, with further sessions around the lodges and during the transfer through the Neck. The final Lake Mburo stay includes acacia-country birding and an optional boat outing before the return to Entebbe.

The pace on non-transfer days leaves space to wait for birds, work with changing light and rest between sessions. Travel days still involve long road journeys; the available photography time naturally fits around those moves. Named camps and lodges provide the bases, ranging from Karamoja to the forest edge. Green-breasted Pitta, Shoebill and forest specialties are sought with patience, and photographs of particular species cannot be promised.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival and an easy Entebbe introduction
Entebbe
